Penny entered her teaching career in her mid-30s after voluntary work with young Deaf people and starting a family. She will describe the British Trade Union Movement, with references to Deaf people as Trade Unionists in the last 30 years.
Penny will also discuss the Equality, and Disability conferences held at the Trade Union Congress.

There will be a Q & A session.

Penny would like Deaf professionals to share concerns and queries which she will pass on to the TUC. There is no clear distinction for Deaf people as a linguistic minority within the union, so this evening is an opportunity to start a dialogue with the TUC, with the hope of gaining recognition for Deaf professionals in the future.

New British Deaf Association (BDA) Chief Executive David Buxton will be speaking at the next Deaf Professionals Network (DPN) event on Wednesday 28th September, 6.30pm at Remark!’s new offices on Leather Lane. David’s talk will be followed by the DPN’s AGM.

Mr Buxton’s talk will look at campaigning, and Deaf people’s involvement in political and social issue consultations. This is especially topical in light of all the recent consultations that have taken place, with more planned, of which many will have a direct impact on Deaf people’s lives, for example video relay services and the Disability Living Allowance.

Mr Buxton will give a talk about campaigning and Deaf people’s involvement in political and social issue consultations as there have been a lot of government consultations recently with more to come, many of them directly impact on Deaf people lives such as video relay services and Disability Living Allowance.

How can we make sure the Deaf community give their views correctly to the government? The BDA has been working hard recently on these consultations, and would like to share their experiences, and offer advice on how others can get involved. There will be Q and A session with Mr Buxton, followed by a half hour networking opportunity.

The AGM will then sit, and elections will take place for for the new Chair and Treasurer will and new committee members are welcome.

The aim of DPN is to support Deaf professionals and individuals seeking to develop their careers or contacts, who live or work in or around London.

On Wednesday 28TH September at 6.30pm, there will be a new talk organised by Deaf Professional Network (DPN) with British  Deaf Association (BDA)’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Buxton followed by DPN’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28th September 6.30pm onwards.

As there have been a lot of government consultations recently with more to come, many of them directly impact on deaf people lives such as Video Relay Service (VRS) and Disability Living Allowances (DLA), BDA will explain more about these changes.

So how can we make sure we give our views correctly to the government, how do we safeguard deaf people lives and be involved in the correct channels?

The BDA has been working hard recently in those consultations and they wish to share their experiences and explain how we can be involved.

There will be Questions and Answers (Q&A) session followed by half hour of networking – before we proceed with our AGM where we will start elections for the new chair and Treasurer. Also re-elect the Vice-chair/Hon.Secretary and other committee member (see nominations list by email).
